IS THERE AN ANTHRAX PANDEMIC YOU NEED TO BE CAUTIOUS OF? GET TO KNOW IF YOU ARE AT RISK WHILE PeN MONITORS!

Since the beginning of 2017, Bacillus anthracis or Anthrax have already infected quite a number of patients. Almost every month, sporadic cases of humans most likely contracting the bacteria from bovines were being reported to have been suffering from the disease.

Fatal if not given outright treatment, Anthrax is a disease that should be taken seriously. The most recent casualty was a man from Georgia, Adjara.

In September 2017 alone, collected reports from PeN’s PULSE Virus Tracker have shown new cases of the said disease. Adjara, Krygyztan, Bangladesh and Italy had cases of Anthrax on the first 10 days of the said month.

PeN’s PULSE Virus Tracker collected reports on ANTHRAX that can be found in the super app.

According to WHO, Anthrax commonly infects herbivores but can also affect birds and other mammals through inhalation, cutaneous contact, digesting infected meat and injecting illegal drugs. Its symptoms also vary depending on how the disease was contracted.

The Bacillus anthracis bacterium is strenuous. A study by Dittman et al. found out that Bacillus anthracis has crystalline nucleotides protecting their DNA make-up against any environmental stress making them resistant to drought, heat and radiation.

An overview of PeN’s PULSE Virus Tracker showing the location of diseases all over the globe.

Though Anthrax is curable in its early onset, being knowledgeable about it more especially on preventing it is a major advantage.

Are you at risk?

Mayo Clinic lists down risk factors depending on a person’s occupation. People in the military are highly at risk since Anthrax is also used a an agent for bio-terrorism. Professionals handling anthrax in laboratory settings, animal handlers on skin, fur or wool, veterinarians and game animal handlers are more likely contracting Anthrax since they are more often in direct contact with the bacteria. Heroin addicts will most likely be infected while injecting poorly sanitized illegal drug apparatus.

Monitor and be cautious at all times. Focusing on prevention is always a wise idea so watch out for these important facts, pandemic or not.

BANGLADESH RIPARIAN ZONE NEEDS SYSTEMATIC AND PRACTICAL WAYS TO COMBAT FLOOD.

BANGLADESH RIPARIAN ZONE NEEDS SYSTEMATIC AND PRACTICAL WAYS TO COMBAT FLOOD.

Climate change has always been pin-pointed as a major reason leaving quite an impact on today’s economy and society.

Just recently, Bangladesh was hit by a massive flood leading to extensive damages.

In 1988, a New York Times report has shown water-submerged Bangladesh having difficulties with supplies of clean water. Bangladeshi natives also had to deal with 935-1,800 deaths for that particular incident alone.

It seems like Bangladesh would have to deal with this problem every once in a while.

So what could be the reason behind it? A major contributing factor making Bangladesh prone to flooding could be its location.

Climate change seems to be a secondary factor affecting nature’s call, making geographic location as the primary reason for Bangladesh’s major flooding.

Bangladesh is a riparian zone, basically a floodplain that acts as a water basin when the river swells.

Once the sea level arises, inundating Bangladesh is inevitable. There are several entry ways for the flood water making the country a possible giant water world.

Over time, the population has also inflated making it a lot harder to manage the circumstances. The effects of flood will affect more natives in terms of more difficult access to rescue and relief operations.

But there is always a way to lessen the damages if not preventing the flood itself.

Since Bangladesh primarily lacks the capacity to prevent damages internally as a government, thinking of practical ways to lessen the suffering during flood season is the best idea.

There are initiatives teaching Bangladeshi natives how to make flood-proof houses and flood-proof farming as well.

Since they naturally reside near water systems,it is impractical to ask them to leave to find a safer ground.

Here are some ideas to compensate flood-related situations:

You can try these ideas while there is no solid plan on how to address these floods for the mean time.
